FORMER BISHOP’S STORTFORD COLLEGE PUPIL CHARLI XCX TOPS UK CHARTS
21 Aug 2013
Former Bishop’s Stortford College pupil Charlotte Aitchison is number one on the UK charts this week. Performing under the name ‘Charli XCX’ the single ‘I Love It’ which she wrote and is the main vocal on went straight in at number one for the Swedish duo ‘Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX’.
The record is already a global hit reaching the top of the charts in several countries throughout Europe and elsewhere, including being a major hit in the U.S.A. and Australia. TV viewers may be familiar with the track that has featured on Glee, Girls and in the theme tune for the MTV series Snooki & JWoww. It is also the sound track for current Samsung worldwide TV advert.
Charli, who is 20, lives on the outskirts of Bishop’s Stortford and in West London. She left Bishop’s Stortford College three years ago to attend the Slade School of Fine Art at UCL. In the last year she has supported Coldplay on their European stadium tour, Ellie Goulding on her European tour and Marina and the Diamonds on her recent U.S. tour. Charli’s own headline world tour kicks off this September in the U.S. but before that she is playing at several of the UK’s summer festivals including Reading and Leeds.
Charli writes for a number of other artists and was sure that ‘I Love It’ would be a hit but did not fit the sound or image of her current album. She gave the track to Icona Pop but featured on it as the main vocal. Charli’s own album ‘True Romance’ was recently released to a barrage of critical acclaim and is selling well, particularly in the U.S. She has recently been the cover feature in numerous magazines including ‘V’, ‘Under The Radar’, ‘Notion’, ‘The Girl’ and ‘XO’ and appeared in ‘Vogue’ whilst she was still at school.
You can listen to ‘I Love It’ and find out more about Charli XCX on her website, Google, Twitter and Facebook.
