GREENPOWER SUCCESS FOR SLINDON COLLEGE

13 Jun 2013

On Sunday 9th June, The Greenpower Challenge Central South Regional heat took place at Goodwood Motor Circuit, when 45 cars took part in the challenge. Schools from all over the south of England participated, and for the first time a team from the USA also took part. Team USA were hosted by Slindon College for a few days either side of the “big race” and the team consisted of seven staff members and 13 students from Huntsville Centre for Technology in Huntsville, Alabama. During their stay Team USA had a day in London, a private guided tour of Rolls Royce Motor Cars at Goodwood, and a visit to Arundel Caste. A very “British experience” for them, many of whom had never been to the UK.

Race day dawned dry but rather chilly and the Slindon team set off with Team USA for the motor circuit. After one or two minor technical problems team USA were delighted with their final place of 13th in the field but Slindon College pulled out all the stops, coming first, with an 8 mile lead.

Paul Burbidge, Head of Design Technology and Greenpower team leader for Slindon said “I am incredibly proud to have achieved first place today, and the team deserve huge praise for all their hard work and efforts enabling us to achieve this fantastic result. This event was made even more special for us by the fact that we were able to host Team USA and great friendships have been forged during the course of the week. We are now looking forward to the National Final at Goodwood on Sunday 13th October when Team USA will once again be our guests, so they can take part in the final.”
