Heatherton’s World Book Day beats the snow
13 Mar 2018
Heatherton’s teachers and pupils battled through the snow last Thursday to celebrate a very special World Book Day.
The children spent their day dressed as their favourite animal and participated in exciting writing, reading and drama workshops. Each class also got to spend some time with Gary from ZooLab, who shared all of his wonderfully exotic animals and told us lots about where they come from and why they look the way they do. This gave the girls a clearer understanding of some of the animals’ characteristics.
During our World Book Day drama sessions, the girls explored the character they had come dressed as. They used improvisation to explore how their animal might react in certain situations and then used these insights to write their own story about their animal. These stories have been entered into a school-wide competition, with the results being revealed later this week.
To round off this special day, the girls were able to share a story with their class. Some chose their favourite stories, while others chose to read something that they enjoyed when they were younger. Every single one was enjoyed and it was lovely to hear all the children reading to each other.
What a wonderful World Book Day!
