05 Mar 2014

Hereford Cathedral School’s Cantabile Girls Choir have once again reached the semi-finals of the BBC Songs of Praise ‘School Choir of the Year’ Competition and will be competing live at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on Sunday 16th March 2014.

140 schools competed to get into the semi-finals of the annual BBC competition, with only six senior school choirs been chosen to progress following a rigorous judging process.  Singing with Hereford Cathedral School’s Cantabile Choir in the semi-finals will be Rochester Grammar School, Lincoln Minster School, The Grey Coat School, Godophin School and Highgate School.  Only three choirs will be chosen to progress to the senior school final.

Paul Smith, Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster said:

“This is an outstanding achievement for the girls and the school.  My congratulations to them and the very best of luck for the semi-finals.”

Jo Williamson, Musical Director of Hereford Cathedral School’s Cantabile Girls Choir and Vocal Coach added,

“I am so proud of the girls! Their performances continue to go from strength to strength, and this achievement just goes to prove that with hard work comes great reward.”

The semi-finals will be broadcast by the BBC on Sunday 4th May 2014.

The BBC have also recently visited Hereford Cathedral School to make a short film about the Choir and the School, with the footage to be used during the semi-finals to give the audience a better idea of Hereford Cathedral School and the choir before their performance.  Filming included shots of the School, the Choir performing, as well as several chats and interviews.
