Homefield Year 8 Boys Cool Off With Common Entrance Field Work
27 Sep 2016
Never has Common Entrance field work been so welcome to Homefield boys as they managed to find relief from the blazing sun and the hottest September day for 105 years by studying the beautiful River Tillingbourne in the North Downs.
The 18km river, which takes in some of Surrey’s most stunning, natural sites, was the subject of 21 Year 8 boys’ Common Entrance field work component, which makes up 20% of their final Geography mark.
The river was studied at three sites, namely Crossways Farm, Abinger Hammer and Gomshall. The students, who were not shy to get a little wet, were tasked with measuring river width, river depth, wetted perimeter, float velocity and gradient using clinometers.
It was a very successful outing with all of the boys accumulating the data they needed for this part of the Common Entrance assessment.
