Howell’s School – BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET!

13 Jun 2017

This week, as part of our Howell’s outreach scheme, Mr Beckett, Mr Cheeke and Mrs Bowden loaded up the minibus with cornets, baritones, trombones and a tuba and took our ‘Brass Roadshow’, Blow Your Own Trumpet, to the Year 5 pupils at Herbert Thompson School.

The workshop gave a chance for the two Year 5 classes to learn about brass instruments by trying a cornet or trombone. Whilst learning about pitch and sound, the pupils were treated to renditions of the Dr Who theme, played on hose pipes, drain pipes, watering cans and teapots!  They learned to play two notes and played along with a funky rhythm track and then read from music to play a piece entitled Thompson Blues.

We had a great, if rather noisy, time at Herbert Thompson and had many positive comments and lots of big smiles when the boys and girls got a sound out of their instruments for the first time!
