Charlie Miller, an Upper Sixth pupil at Malvern College ran the College’s ‘Ledder’ Cross Country event this year to raise money for Cancer Research UK in memory of his father who his family lost to cancer 10 years ago. The Ledder is a challenging seven and three quarter mile race over the top of the Malvern Hills from Ledbury back to the College and Charlie chose to make it doubly hard this year by running the entire course carrying a 20kg-weighted pack. His cross country teacher Ryan Watkins says, “Charlie is good all round sportsman and has been training extremely hard to be fit enough to complete this challenge.”
Yvonne Miller, Charlie’s mother, accompanied him around the course keeping morale and water bottles topped up. “Charlie is a gutsy chap at the best of times”, said Jamie Russell, Charlie’s Housemaster, “to see Charlie finishing the run – at some speed – was a most moving sight and his father would’ve been exceptionally proud”.
Charlie has raised over £1,700 for Cancer Research UK, going way over his target of £500.
