Millfield Prep – Girls’ hockey players meet Team GB Rio Olympians on tour to Holland

In the Easter holidays, 20 very excited Year 8 hockey girls headed off to Haarlem, Holland for a hockey tour.

The first night included the highlight of sitting down to dinner with Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh (Great Britain Hockey Gold Medallists from Rio 2016) followed the next day by a chance to watch Kate and Helen play for their team, Bloemendaal at Kampong HC. Kate and Helen shared their tips and advice with the girls and everyone was lucky enough to get various sticks ans shirts autographed.

The tour included a number of matches with local teams. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience of their match against Schaerweijde, playing a superb level of hockey and the girls’ tactical ability grew throughout the matches. After play, the girls interacted with the Dutch girls playing the very competitive and universal game ‘bottle flip’. The tour finished with two further competitive matches against Haarlem.
