Millfield School – Internationally Acclaimed Pianist Joseph Moog Holds Masterclass With Music Pupils
30 Aug 2017
Music pupils from all year groups were treated to a masterclass with the celebrated pianist Joseph Moog, who has been the recipient of the International Classical Music Award and was nominated for a Grammy last year.
The German musician stayed on after his performance in the Johnson Hall the previous evening as part of the International Concert Series to give some one-to-one tuition to a selection of very lucky music pupils.
Moog listened to each pupil’s performances, before working individually on particular parts of their pieces, offering assistance and advice from his own experience of playing in international concert halls.
Current Head Boy Robbie Brown played Schubert’s Impromptu Op 90 No 4, while Ornella Hutchison chose Grieg Piano Concerto, 2nd Movement. There was also a selection from Brahms, Rachmaninoff and Mozart.
It was an extremely valuable experience not just for the music scholars, but also for pupils undertaking instrumental lessons.
Joseph will perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Hallé Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester later this month.
