MILTON ABBEY SIXTH FORM HOSPITALITY PUPILS VISIT SWISS HOSPITALITY UNIVERSITIES

15 Nov 2013

Four Sixth Form Hospitality pupils recently enjoyed an informative trip to Les Roches and Glion universities in Switzerland . Both universities specialise in Hospitality and are renowned across the world for their comprehensive professional courses.

Les Roches and Glion are among the top three universities providing higher education for the Hospitality industry. The visit was hosted by Marcus Burnett, the UK representative for Laureate, the company who own these and other universities across the world. Accompanied by Hospitality teachers Leonie Monaghan and Elka Charlton, pupils were able to gain an insight into studying Hospitality at university level. A trip to the University of Glion campus was especially interesting, where pupils visited the new academic centre, were shown the site’s facilities and talked through the various study options available.
The group also spent a full day exploring the Les Roches campus where the hosts were equally welcoming.

Milton Abbey’s Head of Hospitality, Leonie Monaghan, commented, “Les Roches offers a slightly different course to Glion, whose focus is more on the academic methods of study. The course at Les Roches includes significant practical skills content, as well as theory, to equip pupils with the skills they need be successful in all aspects of work in the Hospitality world.” She continued, “Also it was interesting to view the university’s accommodation, and learn about how students of different nationalities are encouraged to share rooms in order to broaden their cultural understanding and language skills.”

The trip also provided an opportunity for the group to meet up with former Milton Abbey pupils who have gone on to study at these universities. These students were able to share their experiences of life since leaving Milton Abbey and news on how they are progressing with their university courses.

The Hospitality team will be leading a number of visits to hotels and restaurants in the New Year, as part of the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality. Many pupils who have studied Hospitality at Milton Abbey have gone on to successful careers in the industry, including continuing to study in Higher Education, starting their own businesses and also working for 5* establishments in London.
