MP Rob Wilson visits Leighton Park School

07 Feb 2013

“ In late January, Reading East MP, Rob Wilson braved the snow to meet politically minded students. In a Q and A session with A Level Politics students, they covered a broad range of subjects from how Rob went in to Politics, Europe, the economy and immigration. Rob then talked to some of the 6th form students who have organised a Leighton Park Oxfam Youth Action Group. The group are passionate about supporting Oxfam’s campaign to secure a strong International Arms Trade Treaty.

In keeping with the school’s Quaker beliefs, the group are passionate about supporting Oxfam’s campaign to secure a strong International Arms Trade Treaty. Students from the school designed postcards to convey the message that bananas are better than guns and a change is needed to prevent the vast loss of life connected to Arms Trading. Ellie di Biaise explained, “Because the world has never agreed to have a set of international rules on arms trade, as incredible as this may seem, there are lots of rules on selling bananas but no hard internationally-binding rules on arms trade. We want people to support the Control Arms Petition, at www.controlarms.org.
