New Razak Science Centre Officially Opened by Prime Minister of Malaysia

10 Feb 2015

Malvern College has this week, celebrated the official opening of the new Razak Science Centre by The Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The Prime Minister, an Old Malvernian, who attended the College from 1968 to 1971, opened the Science Centre named in his honour. He gave a speech to assembled guests and took a tour of the Malvern College grounds with Headmaster Antony Clark and other senior staff. He was accompanied by his brother, Dato’ Johari Razak, also a former pupil, who attended Malvern between 1969 and 1972.

Offering cutting edge facilities, the Razak Science Centre ensures that Malvern College continues to develop science as a critically important aspect of the curriculum and provides Malvern with a fully integrated science facility for the first time in the school’s history.

The Centre has been created by completely renovating the existing Preston Science Building and the adjoining 1960s building, and linking the two with a brand new 140-seat Lewis Lecture Theatre, named after former head of science John Lewis. The Centre now consists of eighteen state-of-the-art laboratories, including a showcase laboratory, extra prep rooms and a new rooftop green house.

Antony Clark, Headmaster of Malvern College, comments: “We are incredibly privileged that Prime Minister Najib has been here to mark the opening of the Razak Science Centre and are proud to be able to count such a distinguished personality as one of our alumni. With the ever increasing importance of science and technology in everyday life, it is vital that Malvern inspires its pupils to be the great minds of the future. We are very grateful for the generous gifts from all our donors, which made building the Razak Science Centre possible.”
