ON THURSDAY 7TH MAY, THE HON. DAME SHÂN LEGGE-BOURKE, LVO, LORD LIEUTENANT OF POWYS PERFORMED THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF ST NICHOLAS HOUSE AT CHRIST COLLEGE

12 Aug 2015

On a busy General Election day, Christ College Brecon paid host to The Hon. Dame Shân Legge-Bourke LVO, Lord Lieutenant of Powys as she official opened St Nicholas House, the school’s new junior section.

Dame Shân was welcomed to St Nicholas House by the twenty-eight pupils as they sang their own version of Take That’s Greatest Day. There she met with the St Nicholas House staff, pupils and parents as she unveiled the new St Nicholas House plaque.

Some of the pupils took Dame Shân on a tour of the classrooms, including the popular ‘Messy Room’ where pupils were working with clay to make their own Tudor crowns. She also saw a demonstration of how pupils can use Green Screen technology to transport themselves to far away places using their Ipads and special apps. The two roving reporters, Arthur and Monty, demonstrated their skills in front of the camera before being superimposed on film.

Musical ensembles followed before Dame Shân, parents and guests were given a wonderful lunch in the Y Neuadd Goffa – The Memoral Hall where pupils again sang two of their favourite songs to entertain the guests.  Joseph Marnell and Sophia Johnson presented Dame Shân with a basket of flowers and thanked her for her visit.  All the pupils were presented with special gifts as the very first intake into St Nicholas House.

Christ College Brecon opened its doors to pupils in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 in September last year.  With numbers growing throughout the year, and again for this September, St Nicholas House has got off to a flying start.  St Nicholas House is a family orientated Independent Junior section for boys and girls aged 7 – 10 set in 40 acres of spectacular grounds. St Nicholas House prides itself on providing the best educational experience for children in a safe and happy environment, thoroughly preparing each child for their next step in education and life.

Head of Christ College, Mrs Emma Taylor, said, “I am immensely proud of these pioneering St Nicholas House pupils and their dedicated and outstanding teachers. It was wonderful to have a chance to celebrate together all their energy, enthusiasm and talent. Dame Shân was a wonderful Guest of Honour and gave the pupils an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.”   With numbers growing for September 2015, there are limited places still available.
