Paralympic Inspiration

02 Feb 2013

Staff and children were thrilled earlier this term to meet Sam Ruddock, athlete and paralympian, who kindly came to Bilton Grange to talk to Pre-Prep and the Sixth form about his recent experiences at the Paralympic Games.

Sam first joined Pre-Prep for assembly, and was keen to tell us all about his amazing summer, that he had topped off by running a personal best in the 200m, in the Olympic stadium. He helped the children imagine what it feels like to be in the stadium, with the crowd roaring their support as he raced off the blocks along with the rest of the best of the world’s paralympians.

Sam then passed around some of the Paralympic GB kit he had as a team member, which the children were very keen to see. Tom Castle in Year Two even had the chance to try the kit on!

It was then on to a quick chat with the Year Three children, and then high fives, photographs and autographs all round.

The Sixth Form, many of whom are excellent athletes, were keen to hear his experiences, and both our oldest and youngest pupils cannot fail to have been inspired by Sam’s talk of learning from your mistakes and aiming high for your personal best, in whatever your skill or talent.
