PIGS PASS FROM PEN TO PLATE

21 Aug 2013

Pupils at Sibford School near Banbury received a real insight into the origins of their food, thanks to the latest stage of a new animal husbandry initiative being run at the Quaker school.

This term saw the arrival of two young Gloucestershire Old Spots at the school, which the pupils helped feed and care for.

Pigs grow at an extremely fast rate and so it wasn’t long before the little piggies were big porkers who were taken from the pen … to be returned a few days later as 125kg of sausages.

The Sibford Sizzlers were served at lunchtime … accompanied by minted new potatoes and red onion gravy.
