Prior Park Celebrates Excellence in all Areas

15 Aug 2013

Prior Park College, the UK’s largest Catholic, co-educational, independent senior school, is celebrating another outstanding performance from A Level students. With a pass rate of almost 99%, 78% of pupils achieving the top A*- B grades, and 1 in every 2 entries achieving grade A or better, the vast majority of our leavers have gained entry to their chosen universities.

Seven departments including English, Mathematics, Theology, History and Geography are delighted with at least 1 in every 2 grades at A or better, while other subjects to shine include Art with almost 60% of pupils attaining at least A* grade, and all Modern Languages and Latin students securing grade A or better.

High achievers included Sophie Protheroe and Abigail Sargeant who both received straight A* grades, while Lauren Boyer, Andrew Wilson, Theresa Constable-Maxwell and Jaroslav Sumbal received two A* grades along with A or B grades. These results follow the outstanding EPQ (Extended Qualification Project) results that saw nine Prior students receive A* grades, with one of those students, Meg Osborne, achieving an incredible 50/50 mark.

Prior has lived up to its reputation as a school that delivers excellence in all areas of the curriculum. With two students, Sophie Protheroe and Tabitha Hutchison heading to Cambridge to study the natural sciences and classics respectively, Hattie Seaton awarded a place at the London Academy of Dramatic Art, Connor Baiano attending the Royal Northern College of Music, and captain of Rugby, Peter Laverick studying business economics at Exeter. Meanwhile, South Pole skier and Olympic flame holder, Amelia Hempleman-Adams proved that her extraordinary mid-year adventure was not detrimental to her studies – achieving two A and one B grades.

Prior Headmaster James Murphy-O’Connor is delighted with the results: “We are of course very proud of our top achieving students who through their own natural ability and hard work have attained the outstanding grades of which they were capable and will now attend their first choice universities – Cambridge, UCL, Durham and Edinburgh to name a few. But we also acknowledge those students who through sheer diligence and determination have exceeded their own expectations. This is Prior’s true legacy – a supportive environment and a dedicated group of outstanding staff who make each student’s learning journey as individual and as stimulating as possible.”
