Prior Park College Student Commended for Work in Anti-Bullying Initiative

A Year 9 student at Prior Park College has been commended for her recent anti-bullying initiatives that she has been developing alongside members of B&NES Council.

Savarna Chadda, Year 9 student at the College, is currently a member of the B&NES Anti-Bullying Strategy Group and the B&NES Young People’s Equalities Group, working alongside figureheads within the local council. Recently, her principal focus has been on promoting the council’s initiative to encourage integration and stamp out discrimination within the local community, as well as raising awareness local schools, with Savarna principally concentrating on the College.

As a regular attendee at these meetings, Savarna recently gave a presentation to her fellow committee members, explaining her role within the school as she works with teachers to increase bullying awareness and promote a support system for those who require it. In addition, Savarna has been working with staff at the College to design a comic strip that will be handed out to students directly, addressing the impacts of bullying.

Savarna described her ongoing work with the council explaining, “I have been a member of the B&NES Young People’s Equality Group since late 2010 and genuinely really enjoy what we do there. The group has grown as more and more people want to give their own ideas to the project and are increasingly aware of the importance of empathising with both bully and victim. Thanks to the house system at my school and the buddy system within my own House, I have the perfect example of how schools need to work to ensure that everyone has the support they require, hopefully meaning that bullying can be avoided entirely.”
