Prior Park Equestrian Team Riding High
11 Oct 2013
Under the watchful eye of the team’s coach, Ms Laura Young, Prior Park College’s young equestrian team has been achieving some very memorable results at various events across the country.
At the recent National Schools’ Showjumping event held at Hickstead, West Sussex, the team put in an extraordinary performance to finish in 5th place, having competed against teams from across the UK. Zara Neill (Year 10) excelled in her group, managing to finish a brilliant 3rd place. Meanwhile, Georgie Howes (Year 10) did fantastically well to win a 2-day event at Longleat, putting in a wonderful performance and battling hard to finish at the top of her class.
Last weekend there was even more reason for the team to celebrate, with extraordinary performances again by both Zara and Georgie, this time at Gatcombe, with Georgie managing to finish in 4th place. Another rider, Sara Gibson (Year 11), also put in a wonderful performance over the weekend, clearly enjoying showing the crowd what her and her pony could achieve.
Headmaster, James Murphy O’Connor, is very proud of these results: “These girls are to be commended, not only for what they achieve at these events, but for the hours of practice, organisation and planning that takes place before all such equestrian events. They all embody the Prior Park spirit and we are very proud of them.”
