Public Speaking Success for TASIS England’s Forensics Squad
14 Feb 2017
In Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, the TASIS ninth-graders put on a robust performance with Michelle C. and Bradey Y. making it to the semifinals. Going undefeated in all four rounds, Bradey kept his winning streak intact and can boast an impressive 10-0 record for the year. Olivia H. was named champion of the division, while Josh M. was the runner-up and Gabrielle N. was honored for highest speaker points.
Not to be outdone, the older students kept TASIS pride alive in the Senior Lincoln-Douglas Debate with Niruk De A. and Soham S. tied for third place. In a split-decision final, Anav S. was named runner-up with Patrick C. winning both the division championship and the honor of highest speaker points.
History teacher Jonathan Kendall, who is the coach and instructor for TASIS England’s Speech & Debate Program, was effusive in his thanks to the team of volunteers who helped make the day a resounding success. “Thanks for a smooth-running tournament are due to Brookwood Catering, to all of the teachers who lent the use of their rooms, to Security who processed badges with record speed, and especially to the parents, students, alumni, and teachers who gave up their precious time on Saturday to judge.”
We look forward to the future success of this squad, who will now add the wealth of feedback provided by the judges on Saturday to the experience several team members garnered at last year’s Harvard National Forensics Tournament.
