RGS Worcester Rookie meets the auctioneer
06 Jun 2013
A 13 year-old Worcester chess whizz gave local auctioneer, and TV antiques star, Philip Serrell, a lesson on national television this week.
Ben Chin-See who is in Year Nine at RGS Worcester faced Mr Serrell in a chess match in ‘Put your money where your mouth is’, which aired on BBC 1 on 4 June. The RGS pupil had to play Mr Serrell to decide the price that the school’s Deputy Head, Nigel Lowson, was prepared to pay for a chess set bought by Mr Serrell at a car boot sale.
Ben, who lives in Worcester, said: “We filmed it in our Main Hall in May last year and it was amazing and great to meet Mr Serrell, he was really nice. I was pretty confident when I faced him over the chess board, but we were all sworn to secrecy about the result before the programme went out on television. It was the best morning I’ve ever had!”
