Sibford School – Des Res homes await prickly lodgers

13 Jan 2017

Junior pupils at Sibford School in Sibford Ferris near Banbury are hoping to attract some prickly visitors.

The youngsters, from nursery class through to Year 2, have created two hedgehog houses for their Forest School area and are now waiting to see if the new ‘des res’ designs will attract suitable inhabitants.

Explained four-year-old Ella-Mae: “We used a hammer and some wood to make the houses.” Five-year-old Eliza added: “We decorated the top with moss and leaves so that it was camouflaged from the foxes.”

Reception class teacher Helen Hoy said: “Hopefully the houses will provide a safe shelter for hedgehogs to hibernate during the winter. The children have really enjoyed making them and finding out about the importance of helping hedgehogs which are rapidly becoming an endangered species.”
