01 May 2012

Amid atrocious wet and wild conditions, with flood warnings in place countrywide, on Sunday 29 April, Slindon’s Greenpower Team beat over fifty schools and colleges nationwide to win the Greenpower Season Opener race at Silverstone, in their car “Relentless” The three team drivers in relay, Tom Standing, James Webster and Will Woodage battled on through heavy rain and poor visibility throughout the entire race greatly assisted by their pit crew Robert Peters and Will Morrow. Their second car “Slindon Stealth” also did very well coming in with a respectable 15th place.

Slindon’s Greenpower Team is run by the Head of Design Technology, Paul Burbidge assisted by their volunteer engineer, Hamish Ilton. For the last three years they have been fortunate to receive generous sponsorship from a parent and his company, Litgate.

Paul Burbidge said “I am extremely proud of all the effort the team have put into Greenpower this year and feel we are justly rewarded by winning the first race of the season, despite stiff competition from much bigger schools. This is certainly something to live up to now for the rest of the season!”
