St. Clare’s students celebrate A-Level success!

Pupils at St. Clare’s School, in Porthcawl celebrate A Level results and university offers
Sixth Form students from St. Clare’s School are celebrating another year of excellent A-Level results, with a 100% pass rate and 34% at A* or A grades.
Straight A students were Thomas Hood, Siobhan Lock and Joshua Williams who have all confirmed places at top destinations.
Head Boy, Thomas Hood achieved an A in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. He joined St. Clare’s in Year 7 and has benefitted from the small classes, high levels of stretch and challenge and the personalised approach to teaching and learning. Thomas has accepted a place at Cardiff University to read Biomedical Science and he plans to go into medicine and become an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Deputy Head Girl, Siobhan Lock, performed superbly well and achieved an A* in Chemistry and Biology and an A in Psychology and French. Siobhan joined St. Clare’s in Year 5 and attributes her fantastic results to the staff, “The teachers are really great and they know you really well so they understand how you work best. The grounds are really pretty and we’re so near the beach.” She has accepted a place at Cardiff University to read Psychology and wants to pursue a career as a Clinical Psychologist.
Fellow Sixth Former, Josh Williams (Head of Charities) also achieved an A in History, Spanish and Art. He has been at St Clare’s since Nursery. Josh has accepted a place at University of Exeter to read Modern Languages (Spanish and Portuguese).
Head, Girl, Carla Prinsloo also gained A* in Art and A* in Textiles and has accepted a place to read Textile Design at the prestigious London College of Fashion. She joined St. Clare’s in Year 6 when her family relocated from Scotland. Once she’s got her degree, Carla plans to do her Masters and become a successful fashion designer.
The 2017 A Level grades build on the excellent results seen in previous years and continue the theme with a 100% success rate. This year, 34% of grades were at A*-A and 80% at A*-C (compared to the national average of 25% and 75% respectively).
At St. Clare’s School, it isn’t just about academic success. Students are offered extra-curricular activities in a wide range of areas, including Sport and Art, and enjoy the rounded education the variety brings. Amy Osborne will be taking a gap year before continuing to pursue her passion for Dance and PE at Cardiff Met and Rebecca James will be studying Equine Science at Hartpury.
