St Mary’s enters both Intermediate and Senior teams into Public Speaking competition

13 Feb 2015

St Mary’s was pleased to, once again, enter both Intermediate and Senior teams in the Rotary Club’s “Youth Speaks” Public Speaking Competition this January. Our Intermediate Team A, comprised of Zamzam, Jazmin and Tamsin, spoke very eloquently about Stereotypes, whilst our Intermediate Team B delivered a most entertaining presentation on Age Is Over-rated, which, according to the Rotary Club, should have earned them ‘honorary Senior Citizenship’! Our talented Senior team comprised of Chaya, Emma and Alicia, wowed the judges with their speech about Learning to Drive, winning their section and securing a place at the Zone Finals in Marlow. Again the girls performed very well and although they didn’t win this round, they were praised by the judges for their very strong main speaker who used a personal story very effectively to engage the audience, and her lively use of language, for example describing herself at her first driving lesson as a “spatially challenged octopus.” The judges said the girls’ speech was very clear, enjoyable and relevant to all. Well done, girls.
