Last weekend four girls from St Swithun’s Junior School, Winchester travelled to Solihull to take part in the British Modern Biathlon National Championships, having qualified through a series of events in October.
With a run of 800m and a swim of 50m, the girls competed against the best in their age groups from schools and clubs from all over Britain.
Competing against over 50 other competitors in the U10 category Hermione Murray from Stockbridge finished in 6th place overall with a new personal best in the swim of 0:39.45. Mia Goodale from Winchester finished 8th overall in the U11s event against 92 other competitors.
Mia was joined by Grace Clark from Ovington and Imogen Watson from Micheldever to form the St Swithun’s Junior U11 team. The girls all set new personal bests and finished in 4th place overall.
Director of sport at St Swithun’s Junior School Roger Marshall said ‘This year we have encouraged girls to attend the qualifying events and a number are showing real potential. We will return in the New Year to work hard in preparation for the schools’ event in March, where we have high hopes of repeating our success.’
