The 2nd lacrosse team from St Swithun’s School, Winchester came runners-up in the 2nd team competition of the recent Rathbones National Schools Lacrosse Championships at Guildford.
After a slow start on the Friday morning, narrowly losing to St Catherine’s Bramley, the 2nds finished second in their pool to go into Saturday’s play in the top division. After Saturday’s pool matches the team were in third place and progressed to the knock-out stage as the competition came to an exciting conclusion. The team then faced St Catherine’s Bramley for a second time, taking the game into golden goal overtime and scoring to clinch a place in the semi-finals where they beat Lady Eleanor Holles School. Facing a strong Guildford High School they lost a tight and competitive final match 0-1 to finish in second place overall.
Lacrosse coach Miss Kate Nelson-Lee said “I am really proud of the team and what they achieved at nationals. The second game against St Catherine’s was amazing; in my 12 years of coaching it is up there with the best games I have ever coached. The team are a very talented group of girls who work hard in every practice to improve”.
