Staines Prep Take Part in Sunbury Olympic Art Project

14 May 2012

On Wednesday 2nd May, Year 4 pupils from Staines Prep joined twelve other local schools to take part in the Sunbury Olympic Art Project. The aim was to produce a large scale outdoor art installation to coincide with the 2012 London Olympics.

Under the guidance of professional artist Stuart Simler, the children worked on a collaborative sculpture, symbolizing a series of sycamore seeds having fallen to the ground. Each seed represented the children’s individual thoughts and feelings towards the forthcoming Olympic Games.

The budding young artists then turned their skills to lantern making – each lantern making up a part of one huge torch. They also wrote poems which will be recited whilst the lanterns are being viewed.

The installations will be on display in the Walled Garden at Sunbury from 19th June to 15th July.
