Stonyhurst – Students’ charity ball raises funds for children’s holiday

11 Mar 2016

A ball organised by Stonyhurst College sixth-form students has raised over £15,000, to give children from local special schools a holiday. Every boy and girl in Stonyhurst’s year 12 was involved in planning and running the event, which was enjoyed by over 250 guests. As well as waiting at tables, students provided entertainment in keeping with the event’s theme – the 1920s.

Funds raised from ticket sales, an auction and a raffle, go to the Stonyhurst Children’s Holiday Trust, which gives children from local special schools a summer holiday at Stonyhurst every year. The Poetry Banquet is an annual tradition at Stonyhurst, so called because year 12 is known as ‘Poetry’ at the historic school.

Headmaster Andrew Johnson said: “I am always very proud of our students on these occasions. They all work as a team to produce a first-class event for a very good cause and they have certainly excelled themselves this year.”
