SUSSEX COUNTY FENCING CHAMPION

10 Jan 2014

Farlington’s Eleanor Harvie has retained her Women’s Sussex County Épée Champion title this weekend for a second year.

The Year 11 pupil from Billingshurst defended her title on Sunday 1st December in Portslade and, in spite of difficult competition, she fenced extremely well.  Her closest rival was the Irish international from 2013, but since last year this woman has converted full-time to épée and has recently been doing extremely well in women’s épée competitions, coming within the top 40 women in the country.

Sara Whittaker, Farlington’s Director of PE and Games, said, ‘Eleanor started fencing at Farlington in Year 7 and now coaches with Matthew Brigden, our Fencing instructor. She is a great ambassador for the school and the sport, and she demonstrates what you can achieve when you find your passion.’
