Talented GCSE photography students from Trinity School won three awards at the Rotary Club of South Croydon’s Photography Competition Awards Ceremony last 26th November in the presence of the Mayor of Croydon.
Trinity School winners were as follows:
- Under 17 Category – Overall Winner: Charlie Broughton (Year 11) for Separated

- Under 17 Category – People’s Choice Winner: Daniel Gilbert (Year 10) for Swan
The pupils were encouraged by their teachers to enter the competition whose theme was Beautiful Croydon. Charlie Broughton, who was awarded the U17 First Prize, won a day’s photo shoot with a professional photographer. He commented: “I’m pleased to have won because it helped me realise that I am capable of making good pieces and it has given me more confidence in my own ability, which is especially helpful as we have mocks and GCSEs coming up soon.”
Daniel Gilbert, aged 14, said: “Photography has been my hobby since I was in Year 7 and I am now studying it for GCSE so it’s great to think that my photograph was like by so many people.”
Tuppence Stevens-Lewis, Art and Photography teacher at Trinity said: “This competition is a great way to showcase local photography talent and I am extremely proud of how well our pupils have done.”
Graham Upton, Chairman of the Community and Vocational Committee at the Croydon South Rotary Club and organizer of the competition, said: “The Rotary Club organizes events in the community to benefit young people, such as this photography competition now in its seventh year. I am delighted with the quality of work submitted and with Trinity School’s level of participation. The winners will benefit from excellent prizes, generously donated by our sponsors.”
