THE CHRIST COLLEGE CCF RETAINED THE WESTERN MAIL TROPHY FOR THE BEST CCF IN WALES FOR THE SEVENTH YEAR RUNNING.

12 Aug 2015

Over the weekend of the 24th to 26th April, the Christ College Combined Cadet Force took part in the annual Cadet Cambrian Patrol Competition, once again held on the Sennybridge training area.

The competition was once restricted to CCF and ACF units from within Wales, but since being opened up to all comers, cadet units are queuing up to participate from all over the UK.

Once again fielding teams in the senior and junior competition, the Christ College cadets were keen to emulate their successes of previous years. The training had gone well, with both teams attending an intense but enjoyable training week on Sennybridge at the beginning of the Easter break.

The Junior Team, lead by Milo Welch, spent the Saturday being tested on their map reading, and other aspects of the CCF syllabus, whilst the Seniors, led by Mathew Dempsey, delivered orders, made models, shot on the range, and occupied an observation post.

Day two started early, with the Senior team patrolling around the stands, whilst the Juniors completed a written paper and the march and shoot.

The prize giving took place in the sunshine on Sunday afternoon and cadets and staff alike waited nervously for the medals to be awarded. An inexperienced Junior team were awarded a very creditable Silver, and the Senior team were awarded Gold, one of only three to be presented out of 36 participating teams. The highlight was the Christ College CCF being awarded the Western Mail trophy for the seventh consecutive year, and crowned the CCF Cambrian Patrol champions for 2015. Well done to all the Cadets that gave up their time to train and take part.
