The King’s School Gloucester – New home for King’s Music School

The King’s School, Gloucester have become the new tenant in the old Probate Offices on the corner of Pitt Street in Gloucester. The grade II listed building, dating back to 1858, was vacated by the Edward Jenner School at Christmas and, following a major refurbishment, the King’s School Music Department moved in at the end of February.
The School has a long musical tradition, first providing choristers for Gloucester Cathedral around 500 years ago – so the addition of six spacious practice rooms, three teaching rooms, a suite for Music Technology and a large rehearsal space will transform the quality of music education for all pupils.
Parents, pupils, alumni and the wider school community were invited to the official launch event on 1st March. The guest of honour was Professor Mark Wildman, who was a pupil at the school between 1963 and 1972 and also a Gloucester Cathedral Chorister, before travelling the world with the BBC Singers and, most recently, becoming Professor of Singing at the Royal Academy of Music.
Headmaster David Morton commented, “As an academic subject, King’s continue to offer Music at both GCSE and A Level, despite the real threat to the subject on the national curriculum, and we are pleased to be able to offer all pupils the opportunity to be inspired by music and to discover and develop their musical talents.”
