Rugby teams at Christ College Brecon are set to continue to benefit from one of the most important sporting sponsorship deals in the school’s history.

Welsh insurance broking-to-financial services company Thomas, Carroll Group PLC, has reaffirmed its support to sponsor and part-fund the school’s rugby activities.

True to its major sporting connections – including headline sponsorship of local cricket leagues in South Wales – Thomas, Carroll brought in one of its most prominent insurance broking executives to reaffirm the support- Wales and British Lions rugby great Robert Jones MBE.

During his visit, Rob met with the Head, Mrs Emma Taylor and members of the 1st XV squad and was able to see the design of the 2011/12 1st XV shirts. The company’s heraldic Pendragon emblem and name will appear on the front of Christ College rugby shirts and as well as funding kit, the sponsorship package also helps in the purchase of updated rugby equipment as required by the school.

Rob also presented the 1st XV with their commemorative shirts ahead of the annual fixture against Llandovery College. With the presentation over, he took time out to talk to the players about his experiences on various tours with the British Lions, as well as talking about other rugby-related matters including his take on the now infamous red-carding of Sam Warburton during the recent Rugby World Cup.

Head of Christ College, Mrs Emma Taylor, said: “We really appreciate the continued backing and support of Thomas, Carroll. They have been a tremendous support and we look forward to continuing to work with them over the coming years and beyond, to ensure that all pupils who enjoy rugby at Christ College receive the benefit of their investment.

It is an added bonus that we are able to call on professionals like Robert Jones MBE, Des Parry and indeed Brynmor Williams, who not only understand the intricacies of the commercial world, but have first hand experience of the sporting world at the highest level. We see this as a partnership and look forward to building our own development activities with this important Welsh plc in future.”
