Trinity Parents’ Association donate £10k to charity at end-of-year Proms

A record 1,500 members of the Trinity School community celebrated the end of another school year at the Trinity Proms during which a large cheque was presented to the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation alongside donations to the Trinity Malawi Project and School bursary fund.
On Saturday 9th July governors, parents, staff, pupils, friends and neighbours gathered on the School field and picnicked whilst listening to live music provided by talented current and former students including a cappella group All The King’s Men, Trinity’s Big Band and Trinity Boys Choir.
In a moving presentation, the fabulous sum of £10,000 raised in 2015-16 by the Trinity Parents’ Association (TPA) was donated to Fiona and Tim Spargo-Mabbs to support the DSM Foundation which they set up after the tragic death of their son Daniel from taking an ecstasy tablet at an illegal rave party.
Fiona Spargo-Mabbs said: “We are very grateful to Trinity’s Parent Association for their generous support. We will use these funds to pay for the play we commissioned about Dan’s life to be adapted and prepared to tour around schools with educational workshops, and look forward to bringing it to Trinity next year.”
The event was also an opportunity to thank retiring Headmaster Mark Bishop for his ten years of inspiring leadership of the school. Dulwich College Deputy Head, Alasdair Kennedy takes over the role in September.
Mark Bishop thanked the School community for their support saying: “It has been a privilege to lead Trinity. I would like to thank parents for their support and partnership, and in particular to the TPA for the incredible work they do. I wish my successor Alasdair Kennedy all the very best in the role.”
One Trinity student summed up the feelings of many in the following words: “The Proms were very special this year as we said goodbye to our Headmaster. There was such an amazing atmosphere!”
The Trinity Proms fireworks at the end of the evening brought to a close an amazing year of celebrations to mark 50 years since Trinity’s move to Shirley Park.
