Trinity School hosts Sir Clive Woodward and Trophy Tour

06 Oct 2015

Pupils and parents at Trinity School, Croydon, were treated to an inspirational evening in the company of Sir Clive Woodward and the presence of the Webb Ellis Cup. With just days to go before the French team arrives at the School to start training for Rugby World Cup 2015, Trinity hosted the World Cup winning England Rugby coach and the Trophy Tour last September 8th
.
In the first part of the evening Sir Clive Woodward formally opened Trinity’s new Strength and Conditioning Centre, refurbished in preparation for France. He then carried the Webb Ellis Cup, which had earlier arrived in a specially designed Land Rover Defender, into Trinity’s packed Concert Hall and laid it on its plinth. Following tradition, Sir Clive was the only person present allowed to touch the Trophy having famously won it in 2003.
Trinity Boys Choir gave a rousing rendering of Rugby World Cup song, World in Union, which they are due to sing at the Welcome Ceremony for France on September 14th. Sir Clive went on to give a talk entitled The DNA of a Champion that was both motivational and entertaining. He held his audience of 500 pupils, parents, staff and VIP guests, including The Mayor of Croydon, captivated throughout with personal anecdotes from his time as England coach and thought-provoking tips on how to develop
talent.

Sir Clive Woodward commented after the event: “It was a pleasure to come to Trinity and talk to the school community about the making and training of champions, something which I am passionate about. The students asked some excellent questions afterwards and I was blown away by the Trinity Boys Choir.”

Headmaster Mark Bishop said: “In the run up to the French team arriving for Rugby World Cup 2015 I could not have hoped for a more engaging evening for our students that to have both Sir Clive and the Webb Ellis Cup at Trinity.”

A parent summed up the feelings of young and old alike when he described the evening as “insightful, entertaining and inspirational for both me and my son.”
