Trinity School Rugby Team through to National Final

04 Mar 2016

The Trinity School U13A Rugby team are now through to the national final of the Schools Sports Magazine Cup after winning a tight match against Hampton School on Monday. The match, which was played at Hampton in the windiest of conditions, began with Trinity opting to play with the gale force winds behind them in the first half.

Using the conditions and territory, Trinity managed to score two tries through Sam Tilley to make the score 10-0 at half time. Trinity knew the second half was going to be a tough battle, and Hampton’s fly-half kicked exceptionally well to put them in favourable field positions, putting immense pressure on the visiting team.

Trinity defended well for long periods as Hampton controlled possession, but a missed tackle led to Hampton scoring under the posts to make the score 10-7 with ten minutes to play. The resilient Trinity defence held strong for the remainder of the match, led by an outstanding performance from Ben Wilding, meaning the visiting side were able to finish the match with a 10-7 win.

Trinity coach Richard Risebro said after the game: “For the second year running, Trinity U13s have reached the National Final and the boys totally deserve to be there. They have beaten some of the best Rugby schools in the country to reach the Semi-final. Hampton really pushed us to the wire and the game could have gone either way, but our resilience and determination never faltered and I’m so proud of what the boys have achieved.”
