Wellington College – 4th in Squash Nationals
11 Apr 2017
Well done to Wellington College Boys U19 Squash Team who have finished their season by being placed 4th in the National Schools Squash Trophy Finals in Manchester.
The team was built of Anand Siththaranjan (Hl), Nate Oppenheimer (R), Dominic Atherton (Pn), Charlie Vleck (Bd), Jack Davies (Bl) and Luke Field (Hl) and, on a wet and grim Monday in Manchester, the Wellington squad played Gosforth Academy in the semi-finals for the National Schools Squash Trophy.
Team Coach, Steve Meads, said, “All I can say is that the squash was nothing at all like the weather! Although the team lost 1-5, there was some excellent play and not a drop of energy left in any of the players with three of the six matches going to the maximum five games. On another day, we could have easily made the final. In the afternoon, we played the third/fourth play-off against Charterhouse. Again the boys battled hard but the effect of the morning’s match had taken its toll and they went down 1-4. A big thank you to all the players who took part in the day and in the build-up rounds of the event.”
