Wellington College – Magnificent U15s in Twickenham triumph

12 Jun 2017

Many congratulations to the Junior Colts rugby team who have finished the season as national champions following their victory over Warwick School in the final of the NatWest Cup held at Twickenham on Wednesday 29th March.

The Junior Colts (U15) rugby side, a number of whom are attached to the London Irish Academy, has never been beaten in two seasons on UK soil, with their unbeaten run culminating in a thrilling victory over Warwick School in the final of the NatWest Cup held at Twickenham on Wednesday 29th March. The boys were made to work incredibly hard by a terrific Warwick side who never gave up and, with the score locked at 7-7 at half-time, the game was finely poised. Wellington dominated early possession after the break and a superb line break from full-back Max Thomas (Bd) saw the score move to 12-7 before captain Finn Baxter scored his second to extend the lead to ten points. A moment of brilliance from replacement wing George Morison (Bd), who cut a superb line from a mid-field scrum to score in the right corner, proved decisive, with the final score of 25-12 giving Wellington College the national title.
