Mari Bradbury, Head of Art from the Welsh examining board WJEC has been into St Clare’s to choose pieces that will tour England and Wales for “outstanding” work for INSET for GCSE and AS/A2 Textile Design work, including a huge textile stag affectionately known as Derek who now stands proudly in the WJEC main entrance in Llandaff.

Students Carla Prinsloo, Christian Prescott, Olivia Thorne and Grace Collier all had their work selected to go on display.

As well as her textile stag, Head Girl, Carla Prinsloo, also had her fairground-inspired dress selected for the prestigious tour.  Carla has been at St Clare’s since Year 5. Christian Prescott who joined the school part way through Year 7 has just started studying Fashion Design at the University of South Wales.

Back in July, the WJEC filmed Carla and Christian talk about their sketchbooks and final pieces. Louise Williams, Teacher of Textiles at St Clare’s, said, “WJEC said the submissions of both students reflect the highest standards and most commendable levels of personal engagement and innovation in approach. I was delighted with the AS-A2 textile design results – we had 3 As!”

Headmaster, Simon Antwis said: ““We’re all extremely proud of the students. They have worked incredibly hard. Their results are directly attributable not only to the dedication and perseverance of the students themselves, but also to the quality of teaching delivered here at St Clare’s. “
