Young Film Critic Success

31 May 2013

Prior Park College Year 8 student, Rhiannon Harris has been selected as runner up in the 11-14 age category of Film Education’s nationwide Young Film Critic competition.

Prior English Teacher, Mr Nigel Tattersfield was delighted for Rhiannon, describing her review of Snow White and the Huntsman as very mature; “Rhiannon demonstrated a real critical insight into the nature of Hollywood storytelling, showing marvellous awareness of the limitations of the currently popular fantasy genre. It was an excellent choice of subject matter and Rhiannon’s writing was brilliant in its ability to say a great deal, very meaningfully, under the constraints of a very tight word limit.”

This is the second year in a row that a Prior Park College student has found success in this prestigious competition – last year, Lizzie Daniels, then in Year 9, won the same age-group category.

The competition attracts a huge volume of entries from students across the UK from ages 4 to 19. The winners and runners up this year each received a certificate, DVDs and film prizes courtesy of Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Motion Pictures, Sony Pictures Releasing, Paramount Pictures and Pathé.

The College congratulates Rhiannon on this excellent achievement.
