Facilities

The Nursery at St. Clare’s provides a safe, fun and caring environment. In addition to our excellent facilities we are able to make the most of the specialised teachers in St Clare’s Senior School. Mrs Cheverton comes over to teach the children Spanish while the nursery staff use incidental Welsh throughout the day. Prep School children also benefit from specialist teaching in Science, Spanish, PE, Music and Art. This enables us to offer a successful yet challenging and stimulating educational environment.

At St. Clare’s School, we endeavour to educate the whole child. Our aim is to send young people out into the world of work as responsible, balanced young citizens. Developing life-skills and character education have always been at the forefront of our day to day pastoral care at St. Clare’s but last year, we explicitly addressed their development through our new enrichment programme. Our hope is to offer activities that will form an essential part of promoting employability and enhancing academic attainment, whilst teaching our young people essential life skills that will have benefits well beyond the classroom. Alongside the planned activities, the PE department will be running sporting fixtures and a variety of tournaments, minimising the impact on the academic curriculum. The Maths Department will also offer additional Statistics and Further Maths GCSEs to their more able Year 10 mathematicians.

Our Science laboratories have recently been completely refurbished and offer even greater opportunities to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE and A-Level. Our impressive sports fields and Multi Use Games Area offer fantastic much greater opportunities for pupils across the whole school to participate in outdoor sports. Our bespoke Art building is being completely refurbished this summer and will offer even greater opportunities to study Art, Textiles and Graphics at GCSE and A-Level.

Sixth Form pupils are taught in small tutorial-style groups. The brand new Sixth Form Centre has improved technology and modern kitchen facilities, allowing for independence within the school community. Quiet areas are also set aside to provide for independent study.

Pupils at St Clare’s School have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities including languages, chess, cookery and IT to sports clubs, choir and orchestra, science and drama. Senior pupils are also able to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Young Enterprise.

During term time, we offer an extended day to all pupils in school until 5.30pm. International students are welcomed.
